President Emmerson Mnangagwa has today toured renovated Mbare Matapi flats to assess progress.
The Matapi flats were renovated following President Mnangagwa's tour last year after Block 4 of the flat was gutted by fire and an investor FGC approached Government and partnered the City of Harare to renovate the flats.
President Mnangagwa said he was pleased with the work done so far as it has changed the face of the flats and the hygienic conditions of the occupants.
President Mnangagwa highlighted that it is the wish of the Government to transform Mbare community into a modern town with modern infrastructure and recreational facilities adding that the Government will soon embark on massive renovation projects in Mbare.
Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Minister July Moyo said that the provision of decent housing is part of priority projects under the TSP, together with power generation, water and sanitation, and transport and communication.
Minister Moyo emphasised that the Government was committed to the total revamping of these super structures so that people live in better shelter and environments.
City council offices and Matapi Clinic have also received restoration.
The refurbishment involved the painting of the building, rehabilitation of the sewer and water system and the painting of the pre-cast wall which surrounds the offices.
Last year, a non-governmental organisation, Oxfam, also partnered the City of Harare in the rehabilitation of sewer reticulation system at Matapi Flats.
Residents of Block 4 which has received complete refurbishment said they were grateful for the project.
