The fund, structured on a borrow-and-repay model with low interest rates, was disbursed to scores of beneficiaries at the Rural District Council (RDC) offices in Gutu, yesterday. The initiative has been widely welcomed as a timely empowerment programme that is helping ordinary citizens start and expand income-generating projects, thereby improving household incomes.
One of the grateful beneficiaries, Grace Hamadziripi, expressed deep appreciation to President Mnangagwa and Hon. Chitando for introducing the facility.
“This support changes lives. I will now be able to boost my business and take better care of my family,” she said.
Another vendor, Admire Muchinepayi, said the revolving fund had eased the financial burden for many informal traders who previously relied on costly borrowing from moneylenders.
“This fund has come at the right time. The terms are affordable, and now I can confidently grow my business without worrying about falling into debt traps,” he said.
Zanu PF District Women Affairs representative, Barbra Mugabe, said the facility would particularly uplift women, who are central to family and community welfare.
“This initiative will enable more women to venture into small projects like poultry, gardening and vending. When women are empowered, the entire household and community benefit. This revolving fund is indeed life-changing,” she said.
Ward 34 Councillor, Proud Chifamba, said the fund had ignited renewed hope among residents.
“People are now motivated to work harder because they have access to capital. Some have already started poultry projects while others are expanding tuckshops. The revolving fund is breathing new life into the local economy,” he said.
Ward 37 Councillor, Getmore Chipika, praised President Mnangagwa for appointing leaders who prioritise grassroots empowerment.
“This programme is evidence that the Government’s development policies are reaching the people in rural areas, such as Gutu. I urge more residents to seize this opportunity,” he said.
As the revolving fund continues to roll out in the constituency, hopes are high that it will stimulate economic activity, create jobs, and transform the socio-economic landscape of Gutu Central Constituency.
