Harare Fourth Street and Robert Mugabe Square was once again a hive of activity as parents were sending off their children to various boarding schools today.
Harare Post spoke to one jubilant parent who said the financial strain was much better than the first term.
“Although we spent some money during the Easter holidays, the financial strain is better this time, given that schools do not make major significant changes of uniforms in the winter, it is rather different from January when there will be new students being enrolled and needing a completely new set of uniforms,” said one parent.
Another parent, Mr Tapiwa Mashini from Sunningdale 2 Harare, who was sending his child to St Mount Mary’s in Hwedza echoed the same sentiments saying his school did not raise boarding fees.
“I am happy for Government for close monitoring it is doing in respect of school fees which remains affordable to majority of parents. On average most boarding schools are charging between 600-900 RTGS dollars per term,” said Mashini.
One student from Mazowe High School said the holiday was not all about fun and relaxation but a time to polish up where I was not doing well.
“I spent most of my holiday going for extra lessons, concentrating on subjects that were giving me problems at school that is Mathematics, Geography, Science and English,” said one student.
Most students who spoke to this publication promised to work hard in most of their subject areas.
“I want to work hard in all my subjects because I would want to be part of innovators in the Second Republic,” said one student from Marist brothers in Nyanga.
Most children said they have a lot of admiration for the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
“President is talking of the re-engagement, economics over politics, Vision 2030 which will make the country achieve middle income status and a lot more of positives,” said one student.
