Gandawa grabs land to build clinic

Former Magunje Constituency Member of the House of Assembly, Dr Godfrey Gandawa has built a private clinic on land he never paid a cent for, Harare Post can reveal.

The clinic, situated at Mudzimu Township, 80km south west of Karoi was built during his reign as the MP for Magunje constituency. Mudzimu is in Magunje Constituency.

According to Hurungwe Rural District council minutes gleaned by the Harare Post, the local authority is determined to get all its dues from the former deputy minister of higher education so that the structure is regularized to local by-laws.

HRDC Chief Executive Officer, Mr Joram Misheck Moyo told the meeting that Gandawa misrepresented to the local authority during the land application stage that the institution was to be a rural health centre without disclosing that it was his own private enterprise.

The meeting, attended and chaired by the Mashonaland West Minister for Provincial Affairs, Honourable Mary Mliswa resolved to recover all money owed to the council by the former legislator regards the clinic project.

Gandawa is not new to controversy as his name and a company he fronts, Fuzzy Technologies, was involved in embezzlement of $107 525 from the Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund (ZimDef), part of which money Gandawa used to buy furniture for private use. The Zimdef falls under the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, a ministry where Gandawa was deputy minister to Professor Jonathan Moyo.

During the meeting, Honourable Mliswa implored the council to torque its work ethic to the pace of the New Dispensation which seeks to bring service to the people through hard and honest work.
