Citizens have applauded Government in its efforts to ensure adequate fuel supplies for the next 18 months, a development that has led to the drop in transport fares.
In an Interview with Harare Post today, commuters have expressed relief over the stabilisation of fuel supply and reduction of commuter omnibus fares to normal charges.
“We are very pleased with the move by Government to address fuel shortages. It really shows that it is working day and night to come up with solutions to all the challenges bedevilling the country. I come from Chitungwiza and the bus fares had been increased to 2 dollars to the Central Business District.
“It was so difficult for me to go to work but I am happy that the Government has addressed the situation. Transport fares are now back to normal, that is a dollar,” said Chido Makura, a Chitungwiza resident.
Transport fares for short distance travel have since dropped to their normal costs of fifty cents and seventy five cents following the 100 million litres provided by Sakunda Holdings and its partners. However, there are some commuter omnibuses who are still charging exorbitant prices.
Speaking during a breakfast engagement meeting with the business community yesterday, President Emmerson Mnangagwa castigated citizens who are overpricing their commodities. He went further to say that people should respect each other and must not find joy in the suffering of their fellow Zimbabweans.
