The University of Zimbabwe’s Agro Industrial Park is making waves in the agricultural sector with the recent launch of two innovative products at the ongoing Exporters Conference in Harare.
These products not only highlight the park's dedication to agro-processing but also demonstrate a commitment to enhancing local nutrition and competing on the global stage.
Speaking to this publication yesterday, the Director of the Agro Industrial Park, Dr. Jacob Gusha, underscored the initiative’s focus on developing high-nutritional niche products.
“Our new cooking oil, derived from soya beans, offers a healthier and locally-produced alternative to imported oils. Additionally, our nutritional loaf, made from a blend of sweet potatoes and flour, is enriched with Vitamins A and C, providing an essential boost to the nutritional needs of our communities,” Dr. Gusha explained.
These newly introduced products are part of a larger portfolio that also includes various horticultural items produced and sold within Zimbabwe.
Dr. Gusha emphasized that the park’s objective extends beyond merely fulfilling local demand, with ambitions to expand its footprint into international markets.
“We are here at the Exporters Conference to ensure our products reach beyond Zimbabwe, positioning us as significant players in the global agricultural market,” he added.
The Agro Industrial Park, an initiative of the University of Zimbabwe, is committed to sustainable and innovative agro-processing practices.
In response to the rising global demand for healthier, locally sourced food products, the park’s latest offerings are poised to make a substantial impact on both domestic and international markets.
As the park looks to broaden its influence, collaboration with regional and international stakeholders is critical to propelling its innovations beyond local borders.
The goal is to establish itself as a global leader in agro-industrial production.
