The University of Zimbabwe’s Agro Industrial Park has made commendable strides in the agricultural sector as it recently unveiled two new products at the ongoing Exporters Conference at the Zimbabwe International Trade (ZITF) grounds, Bulawayo.

The park’s director, Dr. Jacob Gusha highlighted how the innovative initiative specializes in agro-processing to create high nutritional niche products.

"Our new cooking oil is derived from soya beans, offering a healthier and locally-produced alternative to imported oils.

The nutritional loaf, made from a mix of sweet potatoes and flour, is rich in Vitamin A and C, offering a vital boost to the nutritional needs of our communities," said Dr. Gusha

The cooking oil and bread products are just part of the park's broader portfolio, which includes other horticultural products that are both produced and sold locally.

Dr. Gusha emphasized that the aim of the Park, is not only to meet local demand but also to expand into international markets.

"We are at the Exporters Conference to ensure that our products reach beyond Zimbabwe, positioning us as key players in the global agricultural market," he added.

The Agro Industrial Park, an initiative of the University of Zimbabwe, has been focusing on sustainable and innovative approaches to agro-processing, with the global demand for healthier, locally sourced food products on the rise, the park's new offerings are expected to have a significant impact on both local and international markets.

As the park seeks to expand its reach, collaboration with other regional and international players is crucial for its innovations to diffuse beyond local frontiers, to be a global leader in agro-industrial production.

The Exporters Conference, a brainchild of ZimTrade that brings together key industry stakeholders from across the region, is an ideal platform for the UZ Agro Industrial Park to showcase its products and network with potential buyers and investors.
