Zim to enhance sustainable agriculture productivity

Zimbabwe is in the process of enhancing its sustainable agriculture productivity through partnering relevant developmental stakeholders, a Cabinet Minister has said.

Minister of Environment, Tourism and Hospitality, Prisca Mupfumira said this while addressing delegates during the 4th session of the United Nations (UN) Environment Assembly yesterday in Nairobi, Kenya.

“In order to lessen over exploitation, it is imperative to intensify agriculture productivity through use of improved and appropriate technologies at every stage of the agricultural value chain. I therefore call upon developmental partners and other relevant developmental stakeholders to partner Zimbabwe to enhance its sustainable agriculture productivity,” said the Minister.

The Minister also said Zimbabwe was adopting a paradigm shift towards ensuring that it overcomes environmental challenges which have resulted in over exploitation of resources.

“Our world is facing a wide range of environmental challenges since the turn of the century, as Zimbabwe we recommend that these challenges require a paradigm shift in the way we do business. As we are all aware, the world’s people depend on natural resources for their livelihoods leading to over exploitation, hence unsustainable utilisation of the same,” said Minster Mupfumira.

At the UN Environment Assembly, African States are gathered there to contribute their input on the actions that should be taken to protect the environment through some of the initiatives, investing in green innovation and circularity, using more renewables, eating less meat and reducing waste.
