President Mnangagwa has appointed Senator Lovemore Matuke, Senator, to the position of Minister of State for National Security with immediate effect.
This pivotal appointment announced by Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr. Martin Rushwaya yesterday, underscored the government's intensified focus on bolstering national security and maintaining peace and stability within Zimbabwe.
Previously serving as the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Minister Matuke’s new role will see him oversee national security operations and spearhead strategic initiatives to strengthen the nation’s security framework
His appointment is expected to reinforce government efforts to safeguard the country's sovereignty and address evolving national security challenges.
Notably, Minister Matuke also serves as the Secretary for Security in the ZANU PF Politburo, highlighting his extensive experience in security governance.
In addition to Minister Matuke’s reassignment, President Mnangagwa appointed Ms. Rossy Mpofu as the Special Advisor on Disability Issues in the Office of the President and Cabinet.
Ms. Mpofu succeeds the late Cde Joshua Teke Malinga, a national hero who served in this capacity until his passing in September last year.
A seasoned advocate for disability rights, Ms. Mpofu previously represented Matabeleland South as a proportional representative in Parliament in 2013, following Zimbabwe’s constitutional allocation of 60 seats for women.
Last year, she was appointed as the ZANU PF Politburo’s Secretary for People with Disabilities at the National People’s Conference in Gweru.
Completing the trio of appointments, Mr. Raymond Machingura has been named the Executive Director for the Presidential and National Scholarships Department in the Office of the President and Cabinet.
A former legislator for Chipinge Central, Machingura brings a wealth of experience from his tenure as the Deputy Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science, and Technology Development from 2018 to 2023.
The appointments are poised to drive forward thegovernment’s strategic objectives in national security, disability advocacy, and educational advancement, enhancing service delivery and fostering a safer, more inclusive society.
