Zim attends 3rd One Planet Summit on climate change

Zimbabwe is attending the One Planet Summit in Nairobi, Kenya where it is being represented by Minister of Environment, Tourism and Hospitality, Prisca Mupfumira.

On its twitter handle, the Ministry of Environment, Tourism and Hospitality said, at the One Planet Summit the country was seeking for solutions to adapt to climate change which is affecting Zimbabwe and the international community.

“Zimbabwe has attended the One Planet Summit to reaffirm and align itself with the international community in looking for innovative solutions for climate adaptation and resilience.

“The team being led by Minister Mupfumira shall be sharing the country’s commitment to step-up climate renewable energy, protect biodiversity, and boost adaptation and resilience in Africa,” said the Ministry of Environment.

At the Summit, the United Nations (UN) said the World Bank Group had committed billions of dollars in support of Africa’s climate change investments.

“Global leaders and influencers are at the One Planet Summit in Nairobi to help accelerate climate change investments. The World Bank Group is stepping up its climate support for Africa by committing $22.5 billion over 2021-2025. The funding is part of the Bank Group’s 2025 targets to step up climate action, launched in December 2018,” the UN said.
