Ministry of Youth to celebrate women’s participation in sport

The contact said, “The Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation will be celebrating the participation of women and girls in sports on 6 April in all the ten provinces of Zimbabwe. The celebrations seek to highlight the significance of women and girls` participation in sport and recreation. The 2022 International Women`s Day will be run under the theme, Equality Today For A Sustainable Tomorrow under hashtag “#Break the bias,” symbolized by the color purple.”

He further said that, “Women and girls` participation in sport and recreation is a fundamental prerequisite for gender equality and democracy. Research indicates that female athletes have high levels of self-esteem and confidence. This as a result will place women and girls in decision making posts.”

The contact revealed that the participation of women in the celebrations will pave way to the creation of a healthy active community and augment the promotion of fitness and wellness amongst women and girls.

The contact said that the Ministry will organize sport and recreation activities for women and young girls inclusive of indigenous games and modern sport codes such as netball, volleyball, football, sack race amongst others.

The celebrations of women participation in sports will provide women and girls with the platform to exercise and improve cognitive skills primarily teamwork, social decision-making, negotiation, and problem-solving.

The celebrations of women in sports by the Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation is in line with President Emmerson Mnangagwa`s mantra of ensuring that women participate in all sectors of the economy.

Speaking at the Young Women for ED Business Convention in Harare last week, President Mnangagwa said, “The Second Republic under my watch is unwavering in its commitment to enable the active participation of women across all sectors of the economy.”
