The construction of new housing facilities for civil servants in Marondera’s Dombotombo suburb is nearly complete, marking a significant step forward in addressing the accommodation challenges faced by Government employees.

The commissioning of the project is expected soonfollowing the finishing touches currently being applied by Leengate Contractors.

This fully Government-funded initiative is part of the broader strategy to improve living conditions for civil servants—a key component of the Second Republic’s commitment to enhancing public sector welfare.

During a recent site visit, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland East Province, Advocate Itayi Ndudzo, highlighted that this development is a tangible reflection of Government`s commitment to its people.

“The tour was an opportunity for Government leaders to evaluate the construction process and underscore the project’s critical role in uplifting the quality of life for civil servants. The development consists of four modern, three-storey blocks designed to accommodate 64 families, providing comfortable and secure living spaces specifically for those serving across various Ministries, Departments, and agencies of the Government.

“It is aligned with our Vision 2030 objectives, which aim to elevate the living standards of our citizens. Providing decent accommodation for our civil servants not only ensures their well-being but also boosts their productivity as they continue to serve our nation,” Minister Ndudzo stated.

Minister Ndudzo added that the Government views this project as a model for addressing the longstanding housing deficits in the public sector.

“By investing in quality infrastructure for civil servants, the administration hopes to replicate this model in other districts across the province. Local authorities have been encouraged to work closely with the Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities to identify and secure land for future projects, thereby ensuring that more civil servants have access to quality, affordable housing,” he explained.

Deputy Director in the Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities, Engineer Wonderful Mashava, confirmed that the contractor is currently finalizing the finer details before the project is handed over to its beneficiaries.

“We expect these flats to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2025. This timeline reflects our urgency and commitment to ensuring that our civil servants are provided with the living conditions they deserve,” said Engineer Mashava.

In addition to the Dombotombo project in Marondera, the Government has embarked on similar initiatives in other parts of the province. Notably, construction of comparable blocks is underway in Mutawatawa, inUzumba Maramba Pfungwe district, with advanced plans for new flats in Murehwa district. These projects collectively underscore the Government’s determination to enhance the livelihoods of its employees by ensuring they have access to quality accommodation.

The development of these civil servants flats is not merely an infrastructure project—it is a strategic investment in the nation’s human capital. As the Government continues to prioritize public sector welfare, these new homes stand as a testament to its commitment to continuously improve the well-being of those who serve the country every day.
