The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has dismissed recent social media allegations regarding the condition of the Victoria Falls road.
In an official statement, Government officials clarified that while certain sections of the highway do require rehabilitation, the alarming images circulating online do not reflect the actual state of the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls route.
According to the statement, a social media platform has been circulating an image showing three individuals posing in a pothole on a road claimed to be part of the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls highway.
“While we acknowledge that some sections of the highway urgently need rehabilitation, the images in question do not correspond to any section of the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls highway,” the statement said.
The Ministry noted that the areas requiring attention are already being addressed through collaborative efforts between the Department of Roads and Bitumen World. Repair teams have been deployed in Hwange, Halfway, and Insiza to ensure that rehabilitation work is carried out efficiently and effectively.
Environmental specialist, Tinaye Mazambara, commented on the situation, stressing that those inaccurate depictions on social media can lead to unnecessary public concern.
“While targeted repairs are indeed underway, it isimportant for the public to rely on verified sources. The overall condition of the highway remains stable, and our proactive maintenance measures ensure its continued safety and reliability,” Mazambara said.
Officials urge the public to seek updates from official channels as efforts to maintain and improve the highway continue, reaffirming that the misleading social media posts do not reflect the true state of infrastructure in the area.
