ZANU PF Director for Information and Publicity, Tafadzwa Mugwadi has dismissed claims by Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa that President Emmerson Mnangagwa was now chickening out of the 2023 Presidential elections.
Responding to Chamisa’s allegations, Mugwadi said contrary to Chamisa’s allegations, it was actually the CCC leader who sent members of the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) to plead with President Mnangagwa for an election postponement.
“It is an open secret that you engaged and sent Zimbabwe Council of Churches to President Mnangagwa for an election Sabbatical, and you were told that elections will be conducted as per the Constitution’s requirements. Now you want to pretend as if the reverse is true, we will expose you if you keep talking lies,” said Mugwadi.
As election dates draw nearer, political analysts have predicted ZANU PF to romp to victory buoyed by the recent overwhelming wins in Mberengwa, Nyanga and Binga bi-elections. The party has also managed to narrow the gap in urban cities, and has also managed to reclaim Epworth constituency in March 2022.
CCC activist Hopewell Chin’ono has also acknowledged that ZANU PF would romp to victory in the forthcoming elections. He warned that CCC would face a humiliating defeat if its election strategies were not changed.
Political analysts have also asserted that the ZANU PF National Congress where President Mnangagwa was endorsed as the party’s 2023 Presidential candidate was an indication that the Party has oiled up its campaign machine ahead of the elections.
Contrary to the preparedness within ZANU PF the same cannot be said about CCC. That opposition party has failed to establish party structures and is yet to officially launch itself. Furthermore, it is struggling to identify candidates for both ward and constituency levels ahead of the 2023 plebiscite.
