President Mnangagwa is set to meet with councillors from all 92 local authorities, on November 25, 2024 at Rainbow Towers in Harare to discuss key issues, including service delivery and future goals.
This was confirmed by Chief Director for Local Authorities and Inspectorate in the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, Khonzani Ncube.
According to Ncube, the meeting, organized at the request of the Zimbabwe Local Government Association (ZILGA), will provide a platform for councillors to express gratitude to President Mnangagwa for his launch of the Blue Print Call to Action: No Compromise on Service Delivery, which has been pivotal in enhancing local governance.
“The councillors, through their associations, the Urban Councils Association of Zimbabwe (UCAZ) and the Association of Rural District Councils of Zimbabwe (ARDCZ), requested this indaba to thank the President for his initiative, which has significantly improved service delivery. They also want to present updates on their achievements up to June 30, 2024, and seek direction, guidance, and clarity on central government expectations moving forward,” Ncube said.
Speaking ahead of the event, Mt. Darwin Ward 21 Councillor, Munashe Kapasura, praised the initiative, emphasizing its importance for aligning local and central government efforts.
“This meeting is a great opportunity for us as councillors to not only showcase the strides we have made in service delivery but also to gain valuable insights from the President. It reflects his commitment to working with local authorities for the betterment of our communities,” said Kapasura.
Zimbabwe’s 60 rural and 32 urban councils will all be represented at the one-day indaba, marking a significant step in fostering collaboration between local authorities and the central government.
