Acting President General Retired Dr Constantino Chiwenga has appointed Ambassador-Designate, Sophia Nyamubeza and Cecil Chinene for diplomatic missions in Ethiopia and Canada respectively.
Ambassador Nyamubeza and Chinene swore to deliver the ordered message of engagement and re-engagement to the two countries.
“I have been ordered to spread the message of Zimbabwe’s engagement thrust and the improvement of ties between Zimbabwe and Ethiopia as well as the African Union and UNECA. Economic diplomacy is key in economic growth and that is the message in line with Vision 2030,” said Ambassador Nyamubeza.
Ambassador Chinene stated that he would do all he can to ensure that Canada uplifts sanctions which that country imposed on Zimbabwe.
“We want to deepen ties with Canada and you will note that we need to address the issue of sanctions on Zimbabwe, so we hope that as we work towards the lifting of these sanctions with Canada, we also address economic diplomacy which is also a key message of the Second Republic and my mission is to enhance trade. We have Canadian companies operating here in Zimbabwe particularly in the mining sector so we want to expand these ties into other areas of cooperation,” said Ambassador Chinene.
The two ambassadors promised to propel Zimbabwe’s vision of increased trade and investment under the National Development Strategy One (NDS1) and the Africa Continental Free Trade Area along Agenda 2063.
The appointment is in line with Government’s engagement and re-engagement mantra in order to attain Vision 2030.
