Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) interim co-vice president, Professor Welshman Ncube is being accused of fuelling the on-going factional fights within ZAPU by siding with the Strike Mkandla’s faction.
A source who spoke to this publication said that Ncube, despite being a leader in the CCC, had been holding clandestine meetings with Mkandla’s faction to devise strategies to dethrone ZAPU leader, Sibangilizwe Nkomo.
“Ncube is the brains behind the Mkandla faction. He has been chairing meetings attended by Mkandla’s faction members. We don’t know why Ncube is desperate to help in dethroning Nkomo as the ZAPU leader,” said the source.
The source added that there was enough evidence to show that the five ZAPU members who were expelled on 12 November 2022 were working with Ncube to destabilise that party ahead of 2023.
“Mkandla, Mathew Sibanda, Ernest Ndlovu, Mildred Mkandla and Akim Nkala are working with Ncube. Their expulsion from the party is justified as they are the architects of confusion within ZAPU. We don’t want people with double standards in ZAPU,” said the source.
Meanwhile, the source added that Mkandla’s faction members were challenging their expulsion from ZAPU and they are accusing Nkomo and that party’s national spokesperson, Msongelwa Ndlovu of unconstitutionally expelling them from the party.
“The Mkandla faction is challenging their expulsion from the party and they are accusing Nkomo and Msongelwa Ndlovu of unconstitutionally firing them from the party. They are arguing that procedurally, they were supposed to have been arraigned before a disciplinary committee before they were expelled,” said the source.
The source added that Mkandla had since written a letter to Nkomo arguing that their expulsion was null and void as they didn’t receive official communication about their expulsion.
Efforts to get a comment from Mkandla and ZAPU national spokesperson, Ndlovu were futile as their mobile phones were not reachable.
