A team of students, from Zimuto High School, has successfully implemented their learning through Education 5.0 by creating a robot that will compete at the World Robotics Olympiad in Turkey. The robot, designed to detect toxic gases in mines, is a key innovation that will be showcased during the competition.
Theophilus Beans, a member of the team, explained that the students were expected to leave for Turkey, on November 26, 2024, where they will represent Zimbabwe at the prestigious event.
"Zimbabwe is a great country with great leaders. Our education system is what made it possible to have such an opportunity," said Beans.
The team leader praised the Government for introducing an education system that encourages modernization and the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) at both national and international levels.
"Going to Turkey is an opportunity that will allow us to implement the technology we are learning from textbooks and bring what’s in the textbooks to reality," Beans added.
He further emphasized that this event was a significant opportunity for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) students.
"This is a great opportunity, as it presents a big chance to showcase the kind of work we are doing as students. We are glad to be able to invest in things that can bring solutions to global and national problems. Our robot is designed to address issues related to the environment, climate change, and health problems like underweight children." he said
Beans also highlighted the importance of such opportunities for Zimbabwean youth.
"This project gives young people something to aspire for, showing that they can engage in innovations that impact the world positively, instead of turning to drug and substance abuse. Youth should invest their time and energy in something productive."
"We are actually helping our community with the knowledge that has been invested in the education system. The results are not just for us, but for Zimbabwe as a nation," said Beans
Zimuto High School team's success in developing a robot to address environmental and health issues showcases the power of Education 5.0 in fostering innovation. Their participation in the World Robotics Olympiad not only highlights their skills but also sets an inspiring example for other students across Zimbabwe, proving that with the right education and support, young minds can create solutions that have a global impact.
