Kasukuwere to contest 2023 Presidential elections

Former Cabinet minister, Saviour Kasukuwere has reportedly accepted invitation from the newly formed political party, Third Way, to contest in the 2023 Presidential elections under its banner.

A source who spoke to this publication said that the self-proclaimed ZANU PF Original leader, Jim Kunaka recently briefed the Third Way stakeholders that Kasukuwere had accepted to be that party’s presidential candidate in the forthcoming elections.

According to the source, the Third Way interim executive led by Kunaka and Godfrey Tsenengamu tasked one Biggie Kwanga to mobilise small political groupings to coalesce around the Third Way.

“Kasukuwere is coming back to be the presidential candidate for the Third Way Alliance in the forthcoming elections. One of the Third Way interim executive members, Kunaka is running around trying to make the Third Way a success. Kunaka and other Third Way interim executive members are afraid of being infiltrated by ZANU PF and they have since roped in one Biggie Kwangwa to mobilise other small parties on behalf of the Third Way leadership,” said the source.

The source added that the confirmation of Kasukuwere as the Third Way presidential candidate will be done at that party’s national convention set to be held before the end of this year in Harare. The source said that an estimated 1000 delegates are expected to grace the convention where other office bearers will be confirmed.

According to the source, T-shirts inscribed, “Third Way: Vote for Tyson Kasukuwere for President 2023,” were currently being printed and will be distributed at the expected convention.

The same source further said that other parties that would join the Third Way would be free to contest in parliamentary, local authority and senatorial elections. However, they will be compelled to rally behind Kasukuwere.

The source added that some senior Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) members were expected to officially join the Third Way soon.

Meanwhile, the Third Way was officially launched in Harare last month by Front for the Economic Emancipation of Zimbabwe (FEEZ) president, Tsenengamu. During the launch, Tsenengamu highlighted that the Third Way was a coalition of small political parties, academics, business people and other individuals who wanted to challenge the dominance of ZANU PF and CCC in the Zimbabwe’s political arena.
