Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) members caused chaos in Masvingo yesterday when they were violently campaigning for their party ahead of the 2023 elections.
A source who spoke to this publication said that two CCC members, Bernard Chimwango and Pangton Guvava were moving around Mupandawana Growth Point in Gutu, Masvingo shouting on top of their voices urging people to vote for CCC leader, Nelson Chamisa in next year’s presidential elections.
The source said that the duo that was clad in CCC party regalia started to shout vulgar words while using derogatory terms to describe ZANU PF and its leadership. This did not go down well with some members of the public who reprimanded them.
“When they were reprimanded by some members of the public, the duo turned violent and started hurling stones at some members of the public. They were acting weirdly as if they were drunk. During the melee, a Form Two student was also attacked by Chimwango and Guvava. The duo was only apprehended by the members of the public after some time,” said the source.
According to the source, when the two were finally subdued and calmed, they accused ZANU PF members of attacking them and frustrating their mobilisation programmes.
“Chimwango and Guvava are full of drama. Instead of apologising for the chaos they caused at the Growth Point, they started brewing a lie that they were attacked by ZANU PF members led by Ophias Murambiwa. The irony was that Murambiwa was not at Mupandawana Growth Point when the duo started the havoc. They are only fabricating this lie to tarnish the image of innocent people,” said the source.
Meanwhile, efforts to get a comment from Masvingo Police spokesperson, Kudakwashe Dhewa were futile as his mobile phones were not reachable.
