CCC leader Nelson Chamisa was this week forced to eat humble pie and cancel his intended visit to meet party supporters and traditional leadership in Chikomba.
Chamisa who wanted to take his struggling rural penetration program to Chikomba ended up aborting his mission as villagers staged massive demonstrations against him for inviting sanctions to the country.
According to a well-placed Source within the CCC party, the self-anointed opposition leader had misjudged his popularity and party support in the district which is a stronghold of the ruling ZANU PF.
“Chamisa was misled by cooked up membership and voter mobilisation statistics presented to the party by coordinators of the mobilisation program code-named “Mugwazo”.
“Everyone knows that Chikomba District is where Zanu PF stalwarts the likes of Solomon Mujuru, Enerst Kadungure and Chenjerai Hunzvi among other revolutionaries were born and bred,” said the source.
The opposition leader sent an advance team as decoy ahead of his visit and the convoy of flashy cars immediately flew into a storm when it came face to face with chanting and placard-waving villagers denouncing Chamisa and his sanctions at Nharira, Masasa, Sadza and in Chivhu.
“The villagers declared Chikomba as a no-go area for Chamisa until the sanctions are removed.
“Chief Musarurwa in apparent disapproval of Chamisa’s visit, proclaimed 1 September the date for the intended visit as Zunde Ramambo Day and tasked village heads to launch land preparation for this season’s Pfumvudza program,” the source said.
Meanwhile, most of the Chiefs from the district who include Chivese and Chief Nyoka denounced sanctions for causing untold suffering on the ordinary people of Zimbabwe.
