President of Transform Zimbabwe (TZ), Jacob Ngarivhume has distanced himself from the flopped National Shut down due to TZ in-house squabbles.
Speaking to this publication, a source close to Ngarivhume said there were concerns coming from Ngarivhume’s advisers that his party was fast becoming a shadow party and a campaign tool for Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC). According to the source, Ngarivhume was advised by his party members not to engage in the national shut down based on a CCC agenda as this would not benefit TZ in any way.
“Ngarivhume was cautioned by his advisers against pushing for a CCC biased national shut down aimed at arm-twisting Government to release Sikhala. The advisers also voiced their concerns that if TZ continues to campaign for Sikhala, the party would eventually be overshadowed by the CCC party then eventually dragged into unnecessary squabbles with the Government,” said the source.
Earlier on, Ngarivhume had posted on his official Twitter handle calling for mass action against Government to force the release of Sikhala.
“There’s a desperate sense of urgency felt by citizens in this country. I recognize that. That is why the business as usual approach cannot continue. We need to be radical to change course,” said Ngarivhume.
Later, Ngarivhume suddenly made an about turn, distancing himself from the earlier message.
“I didn’t make this call for a shutdown but I support those who did so because they understand what is needed in this country,” said Ngarivhume.
Ngarivhume’s TZ party is a proxy funded by the United States (US) government to effect regime change by using unorthodox ways such as inciting for civil unrest by calling for unsanctioned protests and shut downs.
Meanwhile, Ngarivhume has lost his political influence both physically and on cyber space.
