Netizens from various social media platforms have condemned yesterday`s MDC violence that rocked Harare Central Business District (CBD) destroying buildings, robots, cars and claiming three lives.
The violence by MDC Alliance was meant to discredit the peaceful electoral process which, however, both local and foreign observers have already declared peaceful.
MDC-T member who lost in the Harare Central House of Assembly seat, Linda T Masarira posted on her twitter page that, “The soldiers came out because the protesters became unruly. What is the justification of burning cars, looting Bata and stoning cars? All this violence was unnecessary after a relatively peaceful election process. I totally condemn any form of violence and I am clear about that.
“I am saddened by the violence that erupted today in Harare. No one deserves to die for political expediency. I am calling Tendai Biti to order for inciting violence. We should all concede defeat in a peaceful manner not to manipulate innocent suffering citizens.”
Another netizen, Zizi Kodwa posted that, “Nelson Chamisa of MDC (Alliance) must be held accountable for inflammatory and reckless statements which have now led to eruption of violent protests in Harare. Chamisa is trying to spoil a peaceful election in Zimbabwe history. He irresponsibly declared himself a "winner.”
On his twitter account, President Mnangagwa extended his sincere condolence to families of the deceased persons during yesterday violence. “I wish to extend my sincere condolences to the families of the victims of yesterday’s violence. All human life is sacred, and their deaths are a tragedy, irrespective of the circumstances. I would also like to wish a speedy recovery to all those injured in yesterday’s events.”
President Mnangagwa also said that the acts of violence came as a surprise given the generally peaceful environment prevailing in the country.
