Movement for Democratic Change (Chamisa faction) supporters yesterday went on a vandalism spree in Harare to protest, the just released, results of Monday’s Parliamentary elections.
The violence began at Morgan Tsvangirai House (formerly Harvest House) around midday and spread throughout town forcing shops and other businesses to shut shop.
MDC leader Nelson Chamisa is on record promising that they will make the country ungovernable if the results of the election do not favour him, so the supporters were simply responding to their leader’s call to make the country and the streets of Harare ungovernable.
“I will not accept any fake results and if they try to steal our vote, we will make this country ungovernable for (President Emmerson) Mnangagwa,” said Chamisa when asked if he would concede defeat.
Vendors had to close their markets as the MDC hordes started to burn and destroy anything and everything in their path.
Former MDC spokesperson, Obert Gutu, once described Chamisa as a warlord and it seems he was not far from the truth as evidenced by today’s events.
“Anyone who thinks we are going to back a violent thug and warlord to be President of Zimbabwe is simply dreaming. Zimbabwe deserves better. The people of Zimbabwe deserve better. The people shall decide in 2018,” wrote Gutu.
Instead of quashing the fire and reigning-in his supporters, Chamisa further ignited the flames by claiming that he was the rightful winner of the just ended presidential elections and promised to defend his imaginary victory.
“THANK YOU ZIMBABWE ...I’m humbled by the support you have given to me as a Presidential Candidate. We have won the popular vote. You voted for total Change in this past election! We have won this one together. No amount of results manipulation will alter your WILL #Godisinit,” wrote Chamisa on his official twitter handle just as the vandalism reached its peak.
MDC national youth chair, Happymore Chidziva, is similarly on record promising violence if the election results did not favour his principal.
“We are prepared to lay down our lives in defending our vote. We would rather die than have Zanu PF steal this election,” he said.
