Situation in the country normal: ZRP

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) say the situation in the country is normal as people continue with their day to day activities without any hindrance.

In a statement posted on its official Twitter handle, the ZRP hailed citizens for snubbing the much hyped “Country Shut Down”, and urged them to report any acts of intimidation and harassment from unruly elements bent on disturbing peace.

“The ZRP reports that the situation in the country is normal. The public is urged to report anyone trying to intimidate, harass or threaten members of the public who are peacefully conducting their normal day-to-day activities.

“Police is ready to ensure that peace continues to prevail throughout the country,” read the statement.

Meanwhile, citizens took to social media, denouncing organizers of the flopped shutdown for calling for same when the country is just emerging from the effects of Covid19 induced lockdowns.

“These western puppets have no mercy. They are just selfish and only think of regime change. We will not take heed of their call for a shut down. Everyone is very much aware of what happened during the Covid 19 Pandemic. This is the time for us to work harder and compensate for lost time during the pandemic,” said one vendor known as Mrs Chauke.

A teacher from a local school also vowed to report for duty, shunning the call for a stay away, indicating that the Government lost out during the Covid19 era as it committed to paying teachers their full salaries even though they were not going to work. She stressed that it was now their turn to give back to Government by ensuring that the students get full education package.
