Turmoil in ZAPU as senior leader resigns

Chaos is reigning supreme within the opposition ZAPU party, forcing that party’s national treasurer, Future Msebele, to resign just a few months into the position.

A source who spoke to this publication said that Msebele tendered his resignation yesterday with rumours saying that he was likely to cross the floor to ZANU PF.

According to the source, Msebele mentioned in his letter of resignation that his conscience does not allow him to carry out the party duties as a treasurer and after great introspection, he then decided to resign.

“Msebele tendered his resignation yesterday and he didn’t cite his reasons for quitting apart from saying that his conscience doesn’t allow him to carry on with the duties of a national treasurer. We were all surprised as Msebele was a hardworking cadre and an asset to the party since his elevation to the national treasurer’s position in October last year. We now hear that he is likely to cross the floor to ZANU PF,” said the source.

The source added that it was believed that the bad blood between Msebele and that party leader Sibangilizwe Nkomo might have forced him to resign.

“Msebele and Nkomo were always at each other’s throat. Msebele was not in agreement with how Nkomo was running the party. Msebele argued that Nkomo was misusing the little party funds instead of leading in the mobilisation of resources. This bad blood between Nkomo and Msebele might have forced the later to resign,” revealed the source.

He further added that the resignation of Msebele was a heavy blow for ZAPU considering that he was one of the longest serving members of that party. He indicated that if Msebele joins ZANU PF as rumoured, then he will be followed by multitudes of ZAPU supporters.

Efforts to get a comment from ZAPU spokesperson Msongelwa Ndlovu were futile as he was not picking calls.
