In a significant move to enhance digital communication and social media engagement, Presidential Investment Advisor, Dr. P. Tungwarara, has donated 20 high-tech smartphones, including Samsung S25 and iPhone 16 Pro models, to journalists in Mashonaland West Province.
The donation is aimed at supporting the media in effectively showcasing the initiatives and accomplishments of President Mnangagwa'sadministration.
“These phones are meant to help journalists to engage more effectively on social media and showcase the positive impact of President Mnangagwa's policies.Our goal is to enable journalists to better report on the Second Republic’s initiatives and accomplishments, ensuring the nation is accurately informed about the government’s progress and achievements,” Dr. Tungwarara said.
In addition to the phone donation, Dr. Tungwararaannounced that 32 individuals would be placed on a payroll with a monthly stipend of $300 USD to promote the #EDWorks, the government's national development programme. A special journalist fund has also been created to further support those contributing to the promotion of the #EDWorks initiative on varioussocial media platforms.
“This initiative is part of our commitment to empowering those who contribute to the development of our nation and ensuring that information reaches a wider audience,” he added.
Dr. Tungwarara emphasised that the initiative aligns with Zimbabwe's Vision 2030, which aims to transform the country into an upper-middle-income economy. This vision includes enhancing digital connectivity, fostering economic transformation, and encouraging active citizen participation in national development.
A journalist attending the programme, VulindlelaNdabandaba, commended Dr. Tungwarara's efforts.
“Kudos to Dr. Tungwarara for recognising the importance of equipping journalists with the tools they need to excel in their profession. This donation will undoubtedly improve how we report and engage with our audiences.”
Through this generous donation, Dr. Tungwarara has reinforced the role of the media in driving Zimbabwe's progress toward Vision 2030.
