It’s so sad that the MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa is calling for violence ahead of the 2018 watershed election results if he loses.
This declaration came a few days before the Election Day. Earlier Chamisa had vowed to stop the elections citing that he wanted to know where the ballot paper was being printed and how it was to be distributed to the polling stations.
Contrary to President E.D Mnangagwa`s statement when officiating at the launch of the Bindura University of Science Education National Sports Academy, when he called for all the people who will be defeated in the July 30 harmonised elections to accept defeat in a dignified manner.
President E.D Mnangagwa said, “Let those who win do so with humility and honour, realising that they carry the nation`s hopes and aspirations. In similar spirit, let those who lose demonstrate discipline and good sportsmanship by accepting defeat…” This shows a true statesman who respect the voice of the people and he has always propagated that, “The voice of the people is the voice of God’’. Refusing to accept defeat is in actual fact denigrating the electorate for exercising the right to vote for whomever their wanted.
Chamisa’s threats of violence are already showing his lack of leadership qualities befitting a head of state. He has no interests of people at heart and hence he is threatening to violate the will of the people. What this only means is that Chamisa is heartless and selfish and is ready to do anything to have things his own way.
The MDC’s history of violence is well-documented and Chamisa’s threats of violence should be taken seriously. Chamisa is said to have formed a Vanguard group which is led by the MDC T national deputy youth leader Shakespeare Mukoyi. The group has become notorious for dealing with people who are perceived to be opposed to Chamisa. The former MDC T Deputy President Thokozani Khupe was attacked by the Vanguard for opposing Chamisa`s takeover of power and declaring herself the legitimate MDC T president.
Zimbabweans should not let Chamisa and his cronies destabilise our peaceful country just because the electorate have refused their “bullet trains” and “village airports”.
Zimbabwe does not belong to an individual and no-one should be given the opportunity to subvert the will of the people, which they have made known by casting their votes on 30 July 2018.
Zimbabweans have said NO to violence and those who are misinformed to take part in it, should receive the full wrath of law.
