Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has assured the electorate that the Commission will respect the people’s choice and will truthfully announce the election outcome when they are through with verification and compilation of the results.
Addressing journalists at a press conference today in Harare, ZEC Chairperson, Justice Priscilla Chigumba guaranteed the nation that there was no rigging of any form at any polling station and as such, there is nowhere the Commission would steal their vote.
Justice Chigumba added that the Commission was still in the verification process of election results that they had so far received from various wards nationwide.
In addition, the ZEC chairperson confirmed that she had not received any complaints from political parties that participated in the just ended election.
Justice Chigumba said, “No official complaints from contesting parties have reached my desk.”
Meanwhile, Zimbabweans across the political divide have commended President Emmerson Mnangagwa for opening up the political space and promoting peace before, during and after elections.
Lisa Tichatonga @TichatongaLisa twitted on her handle that, “Nomatter who you voted, we must credit President Mnangagwa for ensuring peace everywhere. All political parties campaigned freely across the country. During the Mugabe (Former President) time, there were no-go areas for Tsvangirai (Late MDC-T leader). No one gives ED enough credit, right now former President is free to say what he wants.”
A day after elections, it is business as usual in most cities and towns as peace continues to prevail.
