A senior consultant at International Crisis Group (ICG), Piers Pigou, was yesterday racially abused by MDC Alliance supporters who accused him of siding with the ruling ZANU PF party.
The South African-based Pigou who works for ICG, an organization that purportedly works to prevent wars and shape policies that will build more peaceful world, yesterday accused the MDC Alliance supporters of being intolerant of divergent views and said he had no option, but to block them from his social media sites.
“I had to block two MDC Alliance supporters from my Twitter thread today because they became racially abusive when I dared question whether the MDC Alliance had made some strategic mistakes. This was presented as me refusing to acknowledge abuses (by) Zimbabwe’s government and ruling party,” tweeted Pigou.
Advising Pigou on the character of the MDC Alliance supporters, a netizen, Farai Machara, said that it was in the DNA of the MDC Alliance supporters and activists to attack anyone who said anything positive about the Government and ZANU PF.
“If you want to feel the venom of the MDC Alliance people, just say something positive about the government or ZANU PF. They will descend on you and will not hesitate to racially abuse, use vulgar or belittle anyone opposed to them. Pointing out the weaknesses of the MDC Alliance is like inviting a death sentence as that party’s supporters will emotionally abuse and threaten you with physical violence,” said Machara.
Another netizen, Joseph Samanyara, added that the toxicity and intolerance of the MDC Alliance supporters and activists had reached alarming levels as they don’t hesitate to cyberbully and throw vulgarities to anyone opposed to them.
“They are cultists running a cult called MDC Alliance. They don’t support (Nelson) Chamisa, rather they hero-worship him as their little god, hence the intolerance and toxicity in their cult. I too block them without hesitation. I don’t waste time arguing with idiots,” said Joseph Samanyara.
Most of the MDC Alliance supporters and activists such as Hopewell Chin’ono and Pedzisai Ruhanya had been accused of cyberbullying anyone who possess divergent views to them.
