President Mnangagwa today launched the National Fuel Management System (NFMS) at Trek Petroleum, Pomona in Harare.
The system that was designed by the Harare Institute of Technology (HIT), regulates and monitors the use of diesel and petrol within the country.
Speaking during the launch, President Mnangagwa said the NFMS would ensure better monitoring and regulation of fuel in the country.
“It is pleasing to note that the Harare Institute of Technology is effectively adapting and implementing its mandate in sync with national development goals and aspirations. The NFMS ensures better monitoring and regulation of various aspects of the fuel sub sector, including fuel procurement, importation, deliveries, sales, storage, general consumption trends and patterns. The system will equally help Government in the regulation of national fuel demand and associated fuel resource allocation,” said the President.
The President said the NFMS was a useful decision making tool which provide real time information and the judicious management of fuel resources, from the service station right up to national level.
President Mnangagwa added that at regional level, the integrated system will go a long way in engendering seamless transportation of fuel and its passage through the country’s ports of entry. He said the system further helps validate in transit fuel tankers passing through the country’s jurisdiction.
The President exhorted players in the fuel industry to pursue business and trade practices within the confines of the law. He added that arbitrage and other unethical behaviors which are counterproductive should be shunned as they hold back Government’s aspirations to keep the economy fueled, oiled and energized.
President Mnangagwa added that the launch of NFMS showed commitment by the New Dispensation to ensure a technologically driven economy which mainstreams ICTs as an enabler for sustainable socio economic growth.
He commended Trek Fuel Private Limited for being a pioneer supporter of the NFMS and urged other players in the fuel industry to take a leaf from Trek.
