Pres Mnangagwa urged ZANU PF leaders to work hard

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has implored the ZANU PF leadership to fulfil the party’s 2018 electoral promises and desist from idle talk and rumour mongering that is not beneficial to the party and the country at large.

Addressing the 350th Ordinary Session of the Politburo, President Mnangagwa warned members to be disciplined and reminded them that the party is always bigger than individuals.

“Emboldened by our constitution and revolutionary ideology, let us continue entrenching intra-party democracy, unity, peace and harmony as the bedrock upon which we grow and strengthen our party.

“We cannot afford to be pre-occupied by meetings which merely focus on gossip, rumour-mongering, petty jealousies and unfounded accusations. The party is far much bigger than individuals. Tisazvinyepera kuisa Zanu PF muhomwe, unozokaruka wava muhomwe ye Zanu PF,” said President Mnangagwa.

The President urged members to embrace opposition members who are defecting to the ruling party with welcoming hands and urged the party wings, particularly the Youth League, to intensify and diversify its mobilisation drive towards a resounding victory in the 2023 harmonised general elections.

Coming to COVID-19, the President urged the party leadership to be exemplary and to mobilise people to get their vaccine jabs. He said people should shun conspiracy theories and get vaccinated for the country to return to normalcy.

“Riding on this momentum, I call upon the party to lead from the front as we continue to mobilise our people to vaccinate under Phase Two and ultimately Phase Three, which will target our grassroots population across the country until we realise herd immunity.

“Our party leadership at provincial, district, branch and village/cell levels are encouraged to develop programmes to sensitise communities about the importance and efficacy of COVID-19 vaccination. Let us all be mindful that no-one is safe from COVID-19, until everyone is safe,” said President Mnangagwa.

The President further urged Zimbabweans to uphold all World Health Organisation health standards and said people should avoid unnecessary travelling and gatherings during the coming Easter Holidays.

President Mnangagwa further said is it important for the party leaders to play their role in the implementation and success of the National Development Strategy 1 towards guaranteeing the development, growth and prosperity of the country.

The President further advised that transport challenges in the country are likely to permanently coming to an end as 100 more buses are at the port of entry to Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, ZANU PF has denied its alleged involvement in the political discord happening in the MDC Alliance.

“I want to state clearly that we cannot be held responsible as Zanu PF for the recall of members of other parties. We can only recall our own members, not members of other parties. It is not possible. It’s illegal and I don’t think it will be acceptable by any authority in Parliament, the Speaker and the rest. So let it be very clear that we dismiss that report that we are behind the recall of members of the opposition,” said the ZANU Spokesperson Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo.

Yesterday’s Politburo meeting observed a minute of silence in honour of Tanzanian President Dr John Pombe Magufuli who passed away nine days ago from a heart disease.
