Normalcy will return after Covid vaccination: Pres Mnangagwa

By Staff Reporter

President Mnangagwa has said normalcy in the country will only return after the majority of people have been vaccinated against the Covid 19 disease.

Writing on his social media platforms yesterday, the President said the ultimate goal is to vaccinate almost everyone in the country.

“Life can only return to normality once the majority of Zimbabweans have been vaccinated. This is the ultimate goal,” said the President.

The President also thanked the Chinese and Russian Governments for supporting the people of Zimbabwe during this era of Covid 19 pandemic.

“Thank you to both China and Russia for your donation of COVID-19 vaccines to the people of Zimbabwe. Your generosity during this dark time will not be forgotten,” said President Mnangagwa.

Last week, President Mnangagwa assured the nation that no resource would be spared to save the lives of Zimbabweans as Government sets the target of inoculating 60 percent of the country’s population to achieve herd immunity.

“A national vaccine deployment framework has also been finalised. The initial objective is to inoculate at least 60 percent of the population to achieve population immunity. The first phase will see our hardworking frontline workers, the elderly and those with underlying medical conditions being prioritised,” the President said last week.

According to sources from the Ministry of Health and Child Care, vaccines are already coming in, with the first batch from China, that donated 200 000 doses with Government purchasing an additional 600 000 doses, set to start arriving next Monday.

Currently, the country is observing a level 4 national lockdown that was introduced last month to curb the spread of Covid 19 disease.

As of yesterday, Zimbabwe had 34 949 confirmed Covid 19 cases, including 29 630 recoveries and 1 382 deaths.
