The MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa is planning to dissolve that party’s National Youth Assembly Executive and appoint a new executive comprised of more militant youths than the current ones.
A source within the MDC Alliance told this publication that Chamisa is not amused with the current Youth executive which he accused of being “weak” and “afraid to confront the Government”.
“The president (Chamisa) is not happy with the National Youth Assembly Executive because they are not doing anything to confront the Government. The president said he expected the Youths to be more militant and portray the MDC Alliance as a serious political movement ready to give direction to thousands of youths across the country. However, according to president (Chamisa), the National Youth Assembly is made up of weaklings who are only vocal on social media but doing nothing to prove their existence,” said the contact.
The contact added that there are chances that Chamisa is going to demote the current Youth Assembly Chairperson, Obey Sithole, and replace him with Makomborero Huruzivishe.
“Don’t be surprised to hear that Obey Sithole has been removed as the leader of the Youth Assembly. The president (Chamisa) has lost faith in Sithole and he is likely to replace him with Haruzivishe, who is the current Secretary for Labour and Social Welfare,” added the contact.
The contact further said that Chamisa has already confided in Haruzivishe that he is going to appoint him as the Chairperson of the Youth Assembly.
“Chamisa has told Haruzivishe that he is soon going to be the Chairperson of the Youth Assembly deputized by Joanna Mamombe. Haruzivishe has already started planning for flash demonstrations to convince Chamisa that he is a militant youth unlike Sithole. However, Sithole is likely not going down without a fight. We are likely to see some serious divisions within the Youth Assembly as Sithole supporters are expected to resist Haruzivishe’s appointment,” said the contact.
Efforts to get a comment from both Sithole and Haruzivishe were fruitless as the duo didn’t respond to messages sent to them by this publication.
