Following a series of court losses, the MDC-Alliance has resorted to unleashing violence on the MDC Thokozani Khupe faction, especially defectors.
This publication learnt that on 27 June 2020, the MDC-Alliance militia group bombed a car park owned by MDC-T Highfield West District Youth Assembly Chairperson, Shepherd Mbewe, who recently defected from MDC- Alliance.
This publication learnt that the militia group used a 330 millilitres of Castle lite empty bottle as a petrol bomb to attack Mbewe’s premises.
Information in possession of this publication reveals that the homemade petrol bomb was thrown by the suspected MDC-Alliance militia group and landed near the front bumper of a silver Mazda Axella, registration number AEH 3143 belonging to one Elvis Mapani of Western Triangle Government houses in Highfield.
Mbewe who was manning the premise immediately noticed the fire and swiftly put out the fire before it had destroyed many properties.
The arson case has since been reported at Machipisa Police Station.
The police details from Machipisa police station later visited the crime scene and recovered two unexploded Molotov cocktails which were placed at least six metres apart.
The unexploded bombs were retrieved by the bomb squad and sent for forensic investigations.
Mbewe revealed to this publication that there is a sinister plot by his erstwhile colleagues in MDC-Alliance to kill him because he has defected to the Thokozani Khupe led MDC-T.
“MDC Alliance Highfield West District Assembly Youth Chairperson Marko Manjiva once tipped me that there was a plot to abduct me.Rockford Makusha who was also part of the MDC-Alliance hit squad before defecting to MDC-T also tipped me off to be careful as there were plans to eliminate me,” said Mbewe.
MDC-Alliance reportedly activated a militant group led by Mbare legislator Starman Chamisa which was set up to ruthlessly deal with anyone who opposes Nelson Chamisa’s leadership.
There are strong beliefs that the attack on Mbewe was masterminded by MDC Alliance militias Tinashe Chamisa, Lloyd Zacharia and Chamunorwa Lumbe who are part of Chamisa`s militant group.
The group has since compiled a list of people they want to attack in a bid to send a message to those intending to defect to the MDC-T.
On top of the list is former MDC-A National Executive Committee member, Masimaba Ruzvidzo who is being accused of carrying out massive recruitment for MDC-T in Mashonaland East Province. Senator Jane Chifamba, Proportional representative member Brightness Masango and Harare Provincial Organising Secretary, Rino Mashaya are also on the hit list.
Mashaya was the first victim after he was allegedly attacked by the group on 20 June around 0030 hours at his Glenview 8 home.
Factional battles in the MDC have intensified since April this year after the Supreme Court ruled that Chamisa was an illegitimate leader of that party and handed over the leadership to Khupe, albeit on acting basis.
