Zimbabwe’s innovative Heritage-Based Education 5.0 model has received widespread praise for its transformative approach to unlocking non-academic talents in students. This groundbreaking initiative aims to nurture practical skills and creativity from the primary school level, paving the way for diverse career opportunities and personal growth.
The Education 5.0 model integrates visual and performing arts, sports, and hands-on activities into the school curriculum, bridging a long-standing gap in traditional education. By shifting focus beyond academics, the government is fostering a holistic learning environment that recognizes and values every child’s unique strengths.
Speaking at a recent event, Zvimba District Schools Inspector Andrew Matsikiti emphasized the critical role of parents in supporting the Education 5.0 model.
“This is a whole-of-society approach. Parents must help teachers guide children away from destructive behaviours like drug abuse and instead encourage them to develop their natural talents. Many children face undue pressure for failing academically, yet they excel in other areas. Education 5.0 addresses this gap, and we must all rally behind it,” he said.
Murombedzi Primary School headmaster , Gift Mutombo, noted a positive shift in parents’ attitudes.
“Sports is a high-paying industry, and so is the arts and creative sector. Parents are now seeing the value in allowing their children to explore their strengths rather than forcing them into academic paths that may not suit them,” he said.
Similarly, local resident from Zvimba, Peter Hlohla applauded the initiative, saying, “We used to look down on children pursuing non-academic activities, but now the government itself is backing such talents. Every skill is being promoted, and we are grateful for this development.”
Heritage-Based Education 5.0 is also driving Zimbabwe’s industrialization agenda. Innovation hubs established in tertiary institutions are becoming catalysts for entrepreneurship and creativity, equipping students with skills to contribute to the country’s economic development.
By embracing a more inclusive and talent-oriented education system, Zimbabwe is shaping a generation prepared to thrive in diverse fields. The Heritage-Based Education 5.0 model is not just transforming classrooms but is also laying the groundwork for a brighter, more inclusive future for all learners.
