Government has urged all its employees that are yet to update their Biometric details to do so before the end of this month (February) failure to which they risk being removed from the Salary Service Bureau (SSB) pay roll, the Harare Post can reveal.
The Public Service Commission (PSC) Secretary, Ambassador Jonathan Wutawunashe said in a press statement yesterday.
“Government of Zimbabwe constituted a Steering Committee under the whole of Government approach, comprised of senior officials from key Government entities, to embark on a project to validate the Government payroll through a Biometric Authentication Process. The Steering Committee is chaired by the Secretary to the Public Service Commission (PSC).
“The authentication process requires that every member on the payroll has biometric attributes in the Registrar General’s data base. The members who were found without the required attributes were notified and advised to go to their nearest Registrar General’s office and be issued with the Biometric Identification Documents,” read part of the press statement.
This exercise commenced from beginning of, August 2019 to 31 September 2019, and it was extended to, 31 October 2019. Government further extended the deadline to, 28 February 2020. Mitigation of consequences of errors is the reason for the verification and re-verification.
The Harare Post has learnt this process, which started last year, is meant to dismiss ghost workers. Those workers who remain non-complaint as of, 28 February 2020, will be struck off the payroll. Affected members should direct any issues arising through the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare.
