Efforts by Government to tar the Karoi to Binga road are progressing following the completion of a Chivakanenyama to Zvipani road stretch.
On its Twitter handle, the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services said the project for the expansion of a tarred road from Karoi to Binga was on course following the near completion of Chivakanenyama to Zvipani.
“Karoi to Binga Road Expansion Project is on course, the first 10kms from Chivakanenyama to Zvipani is at the application of the final base stage, wholly funded by Government of Zimbabwe. It is an integral link passing through Siyakobvu, Victoria Falls and Kariba thereby boosting Tourism,” said the Ministry of Information.
Early this year, Treasury availed $10 million towards the commencement of the 300 kilometre stretch road works between Karoi and Binga.
The Harare Post has learnt that after completion, the Karoi-Binga highway should provide a better and shorter route for travellers travelling from Harare to Victoria Falls by close to 200km. The highway requires about $300 million to be completed. Government is the sole funder of the project being implemented by the District Development Fund (DDF). Funds are being received through the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development from the two percent tax being charged on electronic transfers.
