Harare, Chitungwiza councils failing to deliver

Harare and Chitungwiza residents have strongly lambasted MDC led councils for failing to deliver the required core services to the people they are supposed to be serving, the Harare Post can reveal.

Residents in most of the suburbs in these two city councils have gone for weeks without running water raising scares of typhoid and cholera.

As if it is not enough, refuse has gone for a very long time without being collected.

The two councils have exposed residents to health scares.

Kudzai Mutisi tweeted accusing MDC led council of incompetency wasting money on irrelevant things.

“This is pure incompetence. MDC has destroyed our urban areas. This is unacceptable. MDC Spokesperson, Jacob Mafume, what is your party doing to solve this mess you created over 19 years? Be serious guys,” tweeted Mutisi.

Tafadzwa Masango tweeted saying the councils are busy wasting money.

“Shuwa kanzuru iri kugara iri kuma workshop in resort towns, Kariba, Inyanga, Victoria Falls ichidya mari asi madhodhi achiyerera kupinda mudzimba dzavanhu. They sent a 55 member delegation to ZITF kunodya mari. 55 people for a whole week pabatei,” she said.

Telecoms operators behind Africa’s mobile phone boom are increasingly getting into sectors beyond the traditional communications business.

Executive Chairman and Founder of Econet Group, Strive Masiyiwa, has been irked by the prevailing situation that he has instructed the newly introduced transport department under Econet Group, Vaya Africa, to collect refuse and provide clean water to some of the suburbs, a job which the MDC led town councils are supposed to be doing.

Vaya Africa tweeted saying, “Do you live in Harare? Say No to trash with VAYA. Be on the lookout for VAYA Clean City Trucks in your neighbourhood collecting all refuse for free!”

Beyond2018election has tweeted exposing how Chitungwiza municipality is failing to provide services.

“Poor refuse collection, Chitungwiza Municipality has led to mushrooming of illegal refuse dumps in St. Marys. Water shortages are the biggest community problem in Chitungwiza. Locations on higher elevation have gone for one month without piped water while those who got water thrice a week are getting it once.

“Two boreholes have been drilled in St. Marys using Cumulative Distribution Function (CDF) to alleviate water shortages but they remain holes in the ground as they are incomplete! We need more to avert diseases,” they said.

The MDC is busy trying to find ways of toppling ZANU PF whilst neglecting the lives of people who put them in the office. People pay rates and the councils collect revenue from several places like schools, clinics just to mention a few but still they fail to provide the required services.
