There is fair distribution of humanitarian aid at Ndiadzo village centre in Chimanimani, where victims of cyclone Idai are receiving their aid, a Government official has said.

Speaking during the distribution of the humanitarian aid at Ndiadzo village today, District Development Officer in the Ministry of Women's Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Mr Gabriel Jaji said there was equal distribution of aid in ward 9 since it is community led.

Mr Jaji said the villagers established a committee responsible for the registration and distribution of the aid in that area. He added that there are no political factors in the committee.

Mr Gondai Kanda, a committee member confirmed that the aid was reaching every family that is in need.

The aid was distributed by Government in support of a Non Governmental Organisation called Creation Aid.

Aid distributed per family included two black Kango pots, 2litres cooking oil, blankets, tea leaves, mealie meal, salt and sanitary pads.

Christian Aid Zimbabwe Country director, Mr Nicholas Shamano said their organization was willing to assist the victims in Ndiadzo with a lot of material, but facing challenges of poor roads that were damaged by the cyclone as their 30 tonne trucks cannot reach that area.

In addition, Mr Shamano said Christian Aid was currently assisting 303 affected families in that village.

He said their organization would also want to support the Government with long term assistance to the victims which include rebuilding houses as well as providing psycho-social care and counselling to the families that lost their family members due to cyclone Idai.
