MDC hooligans attempt to strangle Jabulani Mtunzi

The MDC youth leader and former Deputy Mayor for Chitungwiza, Jabulani Mtunzi, who was recently left for dead by his fellow party members had his life once again threatened after the same assailants attempted to strangle him on his hospital bed.

Harare Post can reveal that Mtunzi`s attackers followed up and attempted to take his life on his bed at Chitungwiza Central Hospital in the wee hours of 1 April. It seems the attackers wanted to kill him so as to destroy any traces of evidence and allegations from him.

Mtunzi was allegedly saved by fellow patients who screamed to alert the hospital authorities about the attempted murder.

The hospital authorities had to swiftly move to Mtunzi`s rescue by moving him to a more secure ward where he is being monitored under tight security.

Mtunzi, a pro Mwonzora member was assaulted together with fellow faction members - Andrew Samuriwo, Abigal Tarupiwa and Moses Tsikwa. The three had already made a police report at Makoni Police Station yesterday.

The suspected attackers, Jonathan Chimwaira, Sipepa Muchuchu, Beven Mwanda, Chengetai Nyagondo and Goodrich Chimbaira are still at large.

The Saturday skirmishes which saw Mtunzi and several party activists allegedly aligned to the party`s Secretary General, Douglas Mwonzora seriously injured, occurred during selection of candidates for the party`s district organs.

Mwonzora`s sympathisers have been on target by the party`s leader, Nelson Chamisa`s supporters following reports that Mwonzora was eyeing the party`s presidency ahead of the party`s elective congress scheduled next month.
