It has been exposed that MDC Alliance members live a double standard life as shown by the heavy spending done by the Councils they are superintending despite a call by central Government to minimise spending on public servants and improve on service delivery.
The MDC Alliance national youth organising secretary Morgan Ncube torched a storm when he accepted a Mayoral vehicle which insiders said cost over half a million Rands.
Political commentators have lambasted the double standards of living by MDC members accusing them of not walking the talk.
In an interview with a source privy to the development, it sarcastically put to the Harare Post that humility was a taboo and crime for someone in the MDC party unlike in Zanu PF where newly appointed Ministers have vowed to donate their monthly salary to charity.
MDC Alliance Legislator for Marondera Central, Caston Mateo (36) was chastised by party leadership for using his Honda Fit vehicle during the campaign period arguing that his vehicle demeans the party.
Political commentators have weighed the burden on MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa who they accused of betraying the fundamentals of opposition political parties in Zimbabwe when he show up for the final rally before the polling day driven in a top of the range latest Range Rover vehicle with a big convoy which exhibited extravagancy.
“Instead of Chamisa changing the political narrative, he rightly fell into the exact practises which gave rise to the formation of MDC in 1999,” said the political commentator.
During Morgan Tsvangirai’s era, former Kwekwe mayor Shadreck Tobaiwa who bounced back into council after the July 30 elections was dropped from Chamisa’s leadership for his selfless position he held during Tsvangira’s time that Mayoral vehicles were a waste of money as he opted to use a bicycle instead.
Tobaiwa insisted that the Mayoral vehicle was not a priority and told council to channel money to service delivery vehicles. This according to insiders irked the current party leadership as it would directly impact on their conduct in public office and therefore lost favour with Chamisa.
