Government has reported significant strides in implementing priority projects for the Third 100-Day Cycle of 2024, covering sectors such as health, housing, energy, and cultural heritage.
Speaking during a post-Cabinet media briefing on December 3, 2024, Minister of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services, Dr. Jenfan Muswere highlighted key achievements across various ministries.
Dr. Muswere revealed notable progress in computerizing sub-offices in Murambinda, Mahusekwa, Chiremwaremwa, and Chimhanda, with the project now 70% complete. He also shared updates on cultural projects.
“The preliminary survey for the Chitepo Liberation Heritage Archive in Nyanga has been conducted, and procurement of materials is being expedited. Additionally, the refurbishment of the Nambya Community Museum, in Hwange, is on course,” he said.
Dr. Muswere also noted advancements in the Online Border Management System and the establishment of Production Vocational Training Units, now 65% complete.
“Construction of a Skills Training Workshop and Multipurpose Sports Facility at Herbert Chitepo Trust Training Centre is underway,” he added.
Highlighting developments from the Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities, Dr Muswere stated, “The Marondera Flats Housing Project in Mashonaland East is 95% complete, while housing projects in Lupane and Binga have been completed. The UMP Mutawatawa Housing Project is 90% done, and the Beitbridge Re-development is 71% complete.”
Significant progress has also been made in healthcare.
“The repair of cancer machines, at Mpilo Hospital, is 90% complete. We are also replacing gel batteries with lithium batteries at 15 health facilities, including Bota and Gutu Rural Hospitals, with completion at 99%,” Dr Muswere said.
He further highlighted the construction of a National Tuberculosis Reference Laboratory at Mpilo Hospital, now 85% complete, and ongoing work on oxygen plant rooms at Lupane and Chinhoyi hospitals.
“The installation of X-ray machines, at Chikurubi and Inkomo Barracks hospitals, is complete, while renovations at 10 waiting mothers’ shelters and theatres are in progress,” he added.
Furthermore, Dr Muswere reported on energy projects, stating, “The Chitulipasi Community Solar Project in Beitbridge has been completed and awaits commissioning. The Muchekayaora Grid Extension in Gutu is ready, and the Negande Grid Extension in Kariba is 85% complete. Commissioning of the Great Zimbabwe Mini Hydro-Power Station is ongoing,” he explained.
These updates reflect the Government’s commitment to enhancing service delivery and infrastructure across the country as part of its development agenda.
