Police hunt for Mbembesi attempted murder suspects

Police in Mbembesi, Matabeleland North Province, are searching for two brothers, Vote Hadebe and Mthabisi Hadebe, in connection with the attempted murder case at the Mamthobeni homestead in Sojini Village 2, Mbembesi District.


The complainant, Anele Hadebe, sustained severe injuries during the alleged attack, which occurred on January 5, 2025.

According to the police statement, the dispute arose over agricultural land.
The complainant, accompanied by the two suspects, had gone to clear the land at around 0800 hours.

Later in the day, at around 1700 hours, an informant, who is also a relative of the individuals involved, visited the scene and found the two suspects allegedly assaulting the complainant using an axe and a knobkerrie.
Matabeleland North Provincial Community Relations and Liaison Officer, Inspector Banda confirmed the case, “The complainant sustained a cut on the head, a swollen left hand, and was referred to Mpilo Hospital for medical attention because of his life-threatening condition.”

Despite police attendance at the scene, the suspects could not be located and remain at large.
The police also issued a stern warning to individuals engaging in violent acts.
“As police, we would like to warn those who are bent on perpetrating violence that the net of the law will definitely close in on them," stated Inspector Banda.

The complainant remains in critical condition, and authorities are appealing to the public for assistance in locating the suspects.
