The Parliament of Zimbabwe hosted 126 members of the Zimbabwe Military Academy, including 110 Officer Cadets, on December 2, 2024, for a special tour aimed at deepening their understanding of the Government and the democratic process.

On its official X handle, the Parliament of Zimbabwe commended the military for allowing its cadets to attend a learning and familiarization tour, saying, "This tour was a great opportunity for the military cadets to learn about the importance of Parliament and its role in governance."

During the visit, the cadets gained insightful knowledge into the legislative processes; how laws are proposed, debated, and passed in Zimbabwe, as well as the roles of various stakeholders in shaping the nation's laws.

Furthermore, the concept of the separation of powers was articulated to the cadets as a key principle of democratic governance.

“The principle of separation of powers is about, how the executive, legislative, and judicial branches interact," Parliament stated, to enlighten the cadets on the system of checks and balances to ensure that no Government branch holds unchecked power.

The tour was a crucial step toward strengthening the relationship between military and civilian institutions in Zimbabwe. The cadets retained a better understanding of the role of Parliament in governance; furthermore, they understood the importance of the legislative process in ensuring transparency, accountability, and good governance.

"The cadets will develop a deeper appreciation for the role of civilian institutions in governance and become more engaged citizens who participate in the democratic process," the Parliament stated.
This initiative underscores the Government’s commitment to fostering greater cooperation between the military and civilian institutions, with the aim of building a more informed and active citizenry.
