Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Felix Mhona officially commissioned state-of-the-art Air Traffic Control Communication and Secondary Surveillance Radar Systems at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport yesterday.

In his keynote address, Minister Mhona underscored the transformative impact of the new radar surveillance systems on Zimbabwe's airspace management.

"The introduction of these Radar Surveillance Systems is a game changer for our airspace management; it reflects our country's commitment to continuous improvements in line with changing global aviation technology," Minister Mhona said.

He further emphasized that the completion and commissioning of these projects will ensure more efficient and increased capacity for air transport movements.

"These advancements will significantly enhance our ability to manage air traffic, ensuring smoother and safer operations for all flights within our airspace. Aviators and the traveling public can be rest assured of our Government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring safety and security in our skies,” he added.

In addition, Minister Mhona highlighted how the new communication systems will provide comprehensive coverage across Zimbabwean airspace, allowing Air Traffic Control to maintain contact with pilots at all levels of flight.

“This enhanced connectivity is expected to greatly improve the safety and regularity of flights, making the systems a cornerstone of aviation safety in the country. With these systems in place, we can ensure that flights are safer and more reliable, thus boosting confidence in our aviation sector," Minister Mhona explained.

The implementation of these advanced technologies is a testament to Zimbabwe's dedication to staying at the forefront of aviation safety and efficiency. By adopting cutting-edge solutions, the country aims to, not only meet, but exceed international standards, positioning itself as a leader in the region's aviation industry.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by key stakeholders from the aviation industry, Government officials, and media representatives, all witnessing a landmark moment in Zimbabwe's journey towards modernized and secure air travel.
