President and First Secretary of Zanu PF, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa has, yesterday, presided over the 377th Ordinary Session of the Zanu PF Politburo, emphasizing the importance of constitutionalism within the Party.
Speaking at the Zanu PF Headquarters, in Harare, the President addressed various issues including regional politics, economic strategies, and party constitutionalism.
“Meanwhile, the need to nurture an unflinching sense of respect for our party Constitution must always be emphasised. Adherence to principle, honesty and integrity must remain the hallmark of party leaders and the membership in general,” said President Mnangagwa.
Emphasizing the importance of constitutionalism within the Party, President Mnangagwa described the Party's constitution as the fundamental reference point for all matters.
He urged Party leaders to familiarize themselves with macro-economic trends and to pay close attention to the upcoming Mid-Term Fiscal Policy Review to be presented by the Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, Professor Mthuli Ncube.
Highlighting the nation's economic status, President Mnangagwa noted growth across all sectors except agriculture, which has been adversely affected by the El-Nino induced drought.
“The leadership of the party is challenged to follow and be knowledgeable about the macro-economic trends so that we are able to appropriately educate our membership. The success stories of the party must be amplified.
“Indications are that all economic sectors are growing, except the current slump in the agriculture sector, which is a result of the El Nino induced drought,” he said.
He revealed that the recent Irrigation Conference resulted in over US$200 million being allocated to expand irrigation systems, aiming to mitigate the agricultural challenges.
The President called on all Party structures to actively engage in innovation, modernization, and the industrialization of Zimbabwe's economy.
President Mnangagwa also emphasized the importance of explaining to grassroots members the benefits of the 44th SADC Summit, aligning with the national policy of Engagement and Re-Engagement and the Government's economic strategies.
Furthermore, the President commended traditional leaders in regions affected by Gukurahundi for their dedication to finding closure on the historical issue, reinforcing Zimbabwe's identity as an indivisible, unitary, and peaceful state.
President Mnangagwa also congratulated Rwandan President Paul Kagame on his re-election following the Rwanda Patriotic Front's significant victory in the recent elections.
“Allow me on behalf of our revolutionary party, Zanu PF, the Government and the people of Zimbabwe and indeed, on my own behalf, to extend our congratulations to His Excellency, President Paul Kagame and the ruling Rwandan Patriotic Front, for their resounding victory in their country’s recent elections,” said President Mnangagwa.
The President praised the peaceful environment that prevailed throughout the Rwandan electoral process, calling it a testament to Africa's ability to conduct peaceful, democratic, and credible elections.
