“We don’t pay for shoddy work”… Minister Mhona

Honorable Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Felix Mhona today officiated at the official opening to traffic, of the completed dualized section of Nemakonde Way formerly known as Lomangundi.

Giving his speech at the completed 1,84km stretch of the Nemakonde Way from Harare Drive to Westgate traffic circle Minister Mhona applauded the Second Republic for prioritizing infrastructure development.

“Under very difficult circumstances with sanctions in this country it’s amazing how his Excellency comrade Emmerson Mnangagwa is managing to mobilize resources to move with speed” Minister Mhona said.

Addressing media, Honorable Mhona warned contractors, emphasizing that the Government would not pay for shoddy work until proper work that matches the required standards is done.

“Under the second republic we don’t pay for shoddy works, and the contractors know it very well gone are the days when tenders were paid before doing the job,” Minister Mhona noted.

 Minister Mhona noted that subject to S 268 of the constitution, they have a responsibility to be accountable, so every tweet, every post, and every concern is highly valued and addressed.

“We are accountable to the citizens if you go to the constitution it talks of us being accountable to the citizens so when you see us posting tweets, we are being accountable to citizen” he said.

 Engineer Muchena, who is responsible for the road works along second street was given an opportunity to respond to Zimbabweans on the road which was poorly resurfaced. He however promised the Nation that works would commence tomorrow as the contractor was ordered to redo the surfacing.

“As Ministry of Transport we do not tolerate shoddy works hence we have ordered the contractor to immediately resurface the road which is about 1.5km long,” he noted

 It was noted that road construction is underway in all parts of the country and soon Beitbridge, Bulawayo Victoria falls, and Forbes boarder post road works would commence.

“The section is part of the Harare-Chirundu highway upgrade which seeks to create Zimbabwe as a transport hub and get way to the SADC northern corridor,” Minister Mhona noted.

Honorable Mhona was accompanied by Minister of State for Harare Province, Senator C Tawengwa, Portfolio Chairperson on Transport, Hon K Kaitano, and senior Government officials.
