RBZ partners Homelink to increase ZiG accessibility

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has partnered Homelink to widen cash access to the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) countrywide.

In a statement the RBZ Governor Dr. John Mushayavanhu said the partnership arrangement with Homelink is meant widen access to the ZiG.

“The Bank wishes to advise the public, of an arrangement with Homelink to widen access to the ZiG, leveraging on its existing branch network,” the Governor said.

 The Governor highlighted, the Bank’s commitment to ensure sufficient local currency particularly availability of small denominations.

“RBZ is committed to ensuring sufficient local currency, ZiG circulation in the economy is necessary to support normal business transactions and economic activity. The bank particularly seeks to expand economy-wide availability of small change in the following denominations ZiG1, ZiG2, ZiG5 and ZiG10,” said Mushayavanhu.

In addition, the Governor appealed to various stakeholders to approach their nearest Homelink branches and swipe for ZiG notes using their local debit or credit cards.

“The Bank appeals to all individuals, commuters, public transport operators, informal traders and their associations, vendor associations and other stakeholders which interface with the transacting public, to approach their nearest Homelink branch and swipe for ZiG cash using their local debit/credit cards with effect from Monday 10 June 2024,” added the Governor.

The arrangement with Homelink is part of wider initiatives by the bank to ensure availability of adequate ZiG cash in the economy. Going forward, the initiative will expand to other Bureau de changes.

Homelink Pvt Ltd is a strong financial institution (bareau de change) serving Zimbabweans locally and abroad. The group has one subsidiary namely Homelink Finance, it also has two business units namely Homelink Money Transfers and Homelink Properties.

Meanwhile, RBZ Governor, deputy governors and other senior officials signed integrity pledges under the administration of Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commissioner (ZACC), Mr Michael Reza.
