A delegation from ZANU PF, which included the Party’s Secretary for External Relations, Cde Simbarashe Mumbengegwi, and Deputy Secretary for National Security, Cde Tendai Chirau, which observed the South African elections, has applauded that country’s peaceful polls.
Speaking to this publication, Cde Chirau noted the orderly conduct of the South African elections highlighted the lack of familiarity with common electoral practices by the Zimbabwean opposition political parties.
“Similar entrance and exit desks, at the poll stations, were set up by different political parties in SA as was the case here in Zimbabwe during the 2023 elections, by Friends of ZANU PF (FAZ). Unfortunately in Zimbabwe, ignorant opposition parties cried foul. It’s not our problem that they are not exposed to modern campaign trends,” he stated.
Contrary to the Zimbabwean opposition's approach, South Africa’s main opposition leader, Julius Malema of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), exhibited political maturity by stating that his party would accept the election results regardless of the outcome.
“We will accept the willingness of the voice of the people of South Africa, whatever the outcome we will not have any query because we campaigned and no one stopped us, we spoke to our people and no one stopped us. So, if the people did not receive the message, it means we still need more time to work on convincing our people with regards to voting for the EFF,” Malema remarked.
